Founder of Stormont Capital Advisors

Adam Bain began "The Market Surfer" in 2024 to help others ride the waves

of the financial markets...

Adam is a recognized senior financial industry leader with more than 20 years of experience defining and executing strategies across a broad range of global asset management and sales/trading businesses. His demonstrated success growing businesses and driving strategic initiatives has distinguished him as a leader within alternatives capital management and as a trusted advisor to CIOs and investment managers in North America and Europe. Adam founded Stormont Capital Advisors in 2013 and has been instrumental in driving both strategy and capital formation for multiple asset management businesses, with total assets raised amounting to well north of $1 billion. Adam is a regular speaker/panelist at alternatives conferences on topics ranging from fintech to ESG to the overall evolution of the investment management business.

Recognizing the secular growth of private markets, Adam has spent much of the last few years focused on venture capital and growth equity businesses. As part of Artist Capital from 2013-2020 and as part of Delphos MMJ since 2020, Adam is a registered representative of the broker dealer and has contributed significantly to numerous fundraising mandates. Examples included material contributions to the growth Artist Capital’s Investment management business, which is focused on international growth equity and unique market opportunities like eSports. That business grew from zero to over 350m under management in less than 18 months. Adam is also a partner at Sway Ventures, a software focused venture capital fund, where he spearheaded the capital raising process from 2015 through 2018, taking the business from less than 50m in soft commitments to over 300m under management.

Prior to his work at Artist and Sway, Adam headed business development for CommonWealth Opportunity Capital (CWOC), where from 2011-2013 the firm grew from 68m under management to approximately 1.3bn. Before CWOC, Adam ran business development for Drobny Capital from 2009-2011, where the firm both added materially to it’s AUM and transitioned its business to a consulting model. Adam was a key player in both the transitional strategy and the acquisition of core clients like OTPP and Soros. Prior to Drobny, Adam held various roles at Goldman Sachs and UBS between 2000-2009, and notably was part of a small team at Goldman that effectively built the municipal derivatives market. In virtually all of the above cases, Adam was responsible for building and executing investor development plans from nascency to critical mass.

On a personal level, Adam is most passionate about spending time with his three young children and Bear (the 90-pound Bernedoodle that often makes appearances on the podcast). Adam is an avid athlete and when not working, is most likely to be found surfing, rolling around on a jiu jitsu mat, playing catch in the yard, hitting golf balls, skiing, hunting, fishing or otherwise finding reasons to be outside.
